Heathland Art Exhibition

This year’s Heathland Art Exhibition was held on the 10th of October, and was a success, with a showcase of the best sketchbooks and exam pieces done by art students in recent years, in both Year 11’s and Year 13’s.

The exhibition was displayed in the main hall with big stand-up bulletin walls and multiple small tables decorated with cascades of interesting and unique artworks, showcasing the vast spectrum of creative ideas which run through the minds of the wonderful artists we have at our school. There were paintings, photographs, and even sculptures which reflect our backgrounds and identities, as well as how we artistically express ourselves. From the atmospheric and evocative, to the eccentric and experimental, there was something for everyone at the exhibition this year, such as giant twisted sack-figures, a painting of a guy with buttons for eyes, or various open sketchbooks for the visitors to flip through and observe. There was even a snack table with Costco cookies and other good stuff.

The sound system was set up, filling the room with the sound of strings and synths, making this exhibition an artistic symphony of both sight and sound, a marvellous and fulfilling experience for the senses.

We were met by teachers, parents and students, as well as previous Heathland students who came back to see their old work and reconnect with their teachers and friends, and as the Subject Captain for Art, I thoroughly enjoyed touring people around the exhibition and talking to them about some of the pieces as well as the curriculum under which they were made.

I think it was a really good experience to showcase the students' hard work. They showed a lot of dedication throughout Year 13 and throughout Year 11 putting this work together, and it was nice to then  show off their final pieces. There was a broad range of work, from photographic pieces to some sculptural pieces and protest signs, which shows the range and diversity we have in the year groups. As a whole, it really helps to promote arts and culture within The Heathland School and within Hounslow”.
