Head of Department - Miss E. Evans BA (Hons)
The Performing Arts Department was formed in September 2010, bringing together the disciplines of Drama and Music. As a department, we are committed to providing a holistic educational experience for students: encouraging their creative development, supporting their performance skills and challenging their critical analysis. We take great care to balance the final product with the pupils understanding of the process.
The Drama curriculum covers a wide range of topics and subject/skill areas which foster an in-depth understanding of specific theatre facts, techniques and knowledge as well as providing pupils with transferable skills such as teamwork and speaking confidently in front of an audience. In Music, pupils learn about a wide variety of music and musical cultures as well as the contemporary music industry through integrated performing, composing, listening and appraising activities. The department’s links to Music Industry are strengthened by our partnership with SoapBox Centre in Islington. Pupils use a variety of music technology such as Soundnation, FL Studio and Audacity in the school’s Music Technology suite. Private music lessons covering a choice of over twenty instruments and DJ’ing are also available.
The Performing Arts Department offers an extremely wide range of extra-curricular clubs and activities, and pupils are also given the opportunity to perform regularly in school assemblies, prize giving ceremonies, the school’s annual production, Termly performance showcases, ‘Live lounge’ events, Gala Evening and Open Mic Nights. We also have links with a variety of world class arts institutions in London and ensure that pupils take part in numerous professional workshops, trips to the theatre and concerts throughout the year. Our pupils continue to excel themselves in national festivals such as The Shakespeare’s school Festival, National Theatre’s connections & New Views festival and the Water City music festival at the Tower of London.
